Modern Outdoor Planters

One of my favorite ways to decorate the outside of my home is with planters. I have a groupings of planters on my front porch and patio. The planters add a beautiful pop of color, you can fill them with succulents, big leafy green plants, flowers, trees or herbs. On my patio, I treat my plants as decor and love the ability to move them around if they’re getting to much sun.

This round of One Room Challenge, I’m thrilled to be a featured Designer, every Wednesday on my blog for consecutive weeks, I’m sharing the process of giving my backyard cottage studio a makeover inside and out! Last week on my blog, I shared the before pictures of my cottage, the inspiration for the design direction I want to take my cottage along with my week one project list. Be sure and check out week one, linked below.

One Room Challenge: Cottage Studio Week One

COTTAGE STUDIO DESIGN PLAN

Last week, all the old peel and stick vinyl flooring was removed along with the built-in bench. I’m so glad the old lumpy flooring is gone, it was so awful. Now that the old flooring is gone, it feels so good to walk into space and slowly see the room evolve into a beautiful creative space.

My goal is to design a sunlit cottage studio with mid-century vibes meets beautiful natural elements. The grey walls are getting replaced with white! But not just any white color, I’m painting the walls Swiss Coffee, my favorite interior white color. I’m also painting the baseboard and trim Swiss Coffee. The interior side of the cottage door is currently a dark peppercorn shade, I’ve decided to lighten it with Downtown Grey, I think the color will be beautiful with the new door hardware. Below is my Cottage Studio Office Design plan, in the mood board you’ll see lots of varying wood tones, natural materials, and mid-century modern vibes + classic elements.

Over the weekend, I removed the old woven shades in cottage studio, I’m replacing them with DIY Fabric Roman Shades. I fell in love with the fabric Tosho Stripe in the colorway Pewter from Calico Corners for my roman shades. I have four windows in the cottage and I think this fabric (shown below) is going to be so pretty, its a neutral fabric, but the intricate pattern gives it interest and depth.

Cottage Studio, Week Two View, right after the flooring and bench was removed. I’m super excited about the new flooring, after looking at a bunch flooring samples I decided on Pergo Outlast+ in Marigold Oak. Its a beautiful neutral l wood color, to me its a new modern natural color and I love its semi-matte finish.
