The Trick for Long-Lasting Hydrangeas

Hands down my favorite flowers are hydrangeas, and whenever I see them at the Farmers Market or the grocery store, I always bring home a bouquet of hydrangeas. However, not too long ago when I would bring them home, within a day, they would be droopy and begin to wilt. Eventually, I stopped buying them all together; it just hurt too much to see them fade so fast. I received some helpful tips from including, dunk the heads in ice water or use hot water in the vase. I tried both suggestions, but nothing helped.

Finally, I discovered the trick to long-last lasting hydrangeas! When reading one of my favorite floral design books, The Flower Recipe Book. I found the secret.

After cutting your hydrangea stem with clean scissors at a 45-degree angle, place the stem in a cup of boiling water for 30-45 seconds. Next place the hydrangeas stem in-room temperature water. The hot water allows the hydrangeas to soak up more water.

The hot water trick keeps the hydrangeas looking fresh for days. I change the water every three-four days in my vases and re-cut the stems and do the hot water trick again. Typically my hydrangeas last over seven days.
