Over the Christmas break, I took a few weeks off from blogging to work on my new site (read more about my decision to change relaunch my blog as Katrina Blair), spend time with my family and start a few DIY projects around the home. Stepping into 2018 my home feels like it's in transition and a few rooms are getting a new look. I love interior design and changing things up around my house, more importantly, the projects on my DIY To-Do list are all necessary changes that will bring in my storage into my small home and style, I honestly believe when it comes to design in a small space function + style go hand in hand.
In my bedroom, we have this little nook, where our closet used to dwell before rebuilding our home in 2013. Check out this post for a full house tour before we moved back in. This area of my bedroom has genuinely stumped me, I loved that we gained new wall & floor space But was perplexed what to do with the area.
I briefly considered placing a desk in this area but with my backyard cottage I really have no need for an extra office area. For a while I had a small console table here, but it felt off. I thought about placing a dresser here and our TV above, however my husband prefers the dresser and tv its current spot. Finally, I realized wall to wall shelves in this spot would be perfect! I started looking for design inspiration to help me better visualize my ideas.
Wall to Wall Shelves Inspiration

In my bedroom I envision the shelves in my bedroom with space underneath for baskets to hold extra throw blankets. On the shelves I love the idea having a spot for plants, artwork, family photos and books. We've been wanting a chair in our bedroom and placing one in the nook area next to shelves will be perfect.
Nook Area Before
As you can see, this blank area was just begging to be utilized. I researched a few different ways to build one wall to wall shelves and decided to build the style that has a wood cleat. I liked that building the project this way was simple. We attached the wood cleats to the shelves make sure to drill into the studs. Once the cleats were up, it was exciting to see the project taking shape.
The shelves are up, even and ready to be caulked and painted. I'm painting the shelves the same white shade as our baseboards. I'm so excited to get to the fun part and decorate!! What do you think of the adding wall to wall shelves in a nook?
