Welcome to another edition of Small Home Style, for all my new readers, I started the blog series Small Home Style to help fellow small home dwellers with design ideas to help maximize their small spaces and tackle design dilemmas. I love sharing small home ideas, today I’m sharing ideas on how I organized my small master bathroom.
In August, my husband and I gave our small master bathroom a refresh updating the lighting, mirror, and vanity giving our bathroom an entirely new look. Now that my bathroom is complete, I wanted to share how I organized my bathroom and got rid of unnecessary ‘stuff’ that was making it cluttered. Read more about the master bathroom updates here
Since my master bathroom is small, it was vital for me to incorporate lots of storage into our small space. Let’s begin with the vanity.
ORGANIZING THE VANITY
We replaced our vanity top with a marble vanity and rectangle sink giving us more counter space. On top of the counter, I have glass storage containers for holding cotton balls and one for Q-tips. I skipped the bar soap on the counter in favor of a small soap pump. On my bathroom vanity, I also added a small plant & vase for fresh flowers, small touches to add some warmth to our all white bathroom.
One of my favorite additions to our bathroom was adding a swing-arm vanity mirror, and I love it! It’s a fantastic space saver and looks so pretty in our bathroom! Because the mirror is on the wall vs. on the counter, it saves so much room! I use it all the time when getting ready in the morning for my beauty routine and at night. My husband is also a fan; he loves using it for shaving.
Since the bottom of our vanity is open, I use one basket to hold our towels and the other to keep extra sheets, duvet and face towels, and extra toilet paper. I love having easy access to towels right in our bathroom vs. in our hallway closet, same with toilet paper! In our main bathroom, I have a basket under the sink full of toilet paper, so we always have plenty in both bathrooms. I get this from my mom! She always buys and excess of toilet paper, and I hate running low on it. The baskets add a pretty natural touch to our bathroom and are super functional.
ORGANIZING DRAWERS
Our vanity has one drawer! Yes, you read that right one single drawer, which has created a challenge since day one! I realized we weren’t effectively using the small drawer. Inside the drawer, I added expandable organizers to help keep everything in its place. My husband decided to let me have the drawer, and he’ll keep his items (except toothbrush) in our closet since I have more ‘stuff.’ One side of the drawer holds my makeup, as you can see I’m super low-key when it comes to makeup and went through all my beauty items and paired down and kept what I use. I honestly had a lot of makeup that was never used or had old dates, those all got tossed! Check out this article from Good Housekeeping sharing when to throw out beauty products.
On the other side, I have my skincare items and a toothbrush. Again I paired all the way down, and extra things that I don’t use daily reside in a basket in the linen closet. Each morning and night, I try to make sure I put all the makeup and beauty items back in the drawer to keep my counter clutter-free.
ADDITIONAL STORAGE
I’m a huge fan of trays, and they help control all the things! I used a simple gold tray on top of the toilet to hold special beauty favorites: body spray, face oil, etc. I love my bathroom window ledge; it's nice and deep and perfect for keeping plants and my little-woven basket. I finally found the perfect basket for holding my tampons and panty liners! Real talk ladies, I never had a designated spot for my feminine products, they would stay in the box they came in and float around my bathroom. I would always on the hunt for them. Now I have this little basket that fits perfectly on my window will, and it's discreet #hallelujah Behind our door we hung a three hook towel holder. I keep my curling iron, flat iron and wand our hall linen closet since I don’t use them daily I decided it made more sense to keep them out of the bathroom!
Since our bathroom is on the small side, we opted to skip a traditional towel bar in our bathroom in favor or bathroom hooks! This one works perfectly its pretty and huge! Under our bathroom vanity, I also store our scale, I like to keep it our the way, so it doesn't take up in floor space.
When we added a bathroom on to our home, we had the contractor add niches in our wall to hold toiletries. The niche has been a life-saver & space saver! I’m able to keep our body wash, face wash (most mornings I wash my face in the shower) and shampoo and condition in our niche. If I had to do it over again, I likely would have installed a longer niche.
I love how our bathroom master bathroom turned out and how it sparked me wanting to create an organized space for Hasani and I. It feels so welcoming, and I love relaxing. Next on my list, is installing natural shade in our bathroom, I'm also on the hunt for a bathroom mat, I'm over cold feet! I’m also hoping to find a slim wove basket just for dirty towels, yay for no sorting! The plan is to have our main laundry basket in the closet and one laundry basket just for towel.
